Miss Mildred Percy inherits a dragon.
Ah, but we’ve already got ahead of ourselves…
Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg.
The egg – as eggs are wont to do – decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.” But England has not seen a dragon since… well, ever. And now Mildred must contend with raising a dragon (that should not exist), kindling a romance (with a humble vicar), and embarking on an adventure she never thought could be hers for the taking.

My Review
My Rating: 5 Stars
Consider liking my review on Goodreads
I was granted complimentary access to Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with Storytellers on Tour. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
Mildred’s live put her through a series of events that have lead to her this particular situation: a spinster far too old for marriage, begrudgingly still living with her sister until that nanny who’s never coming gets hired to take care of the kids. When an elder family member passes away, Mildred’s sister hopes for a monetary inheritance but instead, Mildred inherits something particularly peculiar: a dragon.
This book is so much fun! It presents serious, deep themes like feeling lost in life and learning to accept a found family, but it does everything in a self-aware, tongue-in-cheek sort of way. Oh, and of course there’s dragons! Did I mention there’s dragons?
I absolutely loved the dynamic between Mildred and vicar Wiggan, and the vicar’s house keeper was a joy to read as well. Olson definitely has strong skills when it comes to writing characters who are so raw, real, and genuine that you can imagine sitting down to tea with them and wouldn’t mind long spans of just “hanging out” with the characters without plot. Fortunately, though, there is also plot.
I want more of these characters and this version of the world!
About the Author
