Benjamin Nash, Marquess of Creslow, must marry, for he is the last of the family line. Desirous of a business arrangement instead of a love match, he hires a matchmaker, but on the way to the May Day festival where he will meet her, as well as his matches, he encounters an alluring lady who may suit him perfectly…
After her husband’s death left her a pauper, Rebecca Sweet relied on family for help and in return guided two of them to successful marriages. Engaged with her first real client, she plans to present him a gaggle of young ladies eager to wed. But when she realizes the marquess is the same dashing gentleman she met on the way to the festival, the task becomes far more complicated. Attraction simmers between them, however Nash wants a loveless marriage and Rebecca would only wed again for love. She must find him a bride before she loses her heart forever.

Excerpt
“How did you manage to miscalculate your arrival?” Rebecca could well imagine. It was not unusual for Horatio to forget to come home from his mistress’s house.
One of Creslow’s brows shot up. “Do I detect a note of sarcasm?”
She kept herself from smiling. “Perhaps a small one.”
“If you’re perchance insinuating that our debauchery got the better of us, you may be right, but I swear it wasn’t for the reasons you think. We were simply having too grand a time. We’ve been friends since those Eton days.”
“What reasons did you presume I was thinking?” Why was she practically flirting with this man? Had she ever flirted? Of course she had. During her first and only May Day Matchmaking Festival back in Marrywell.
She hadn’t been very good at flirting, however, since the man she’d managed to wed had been awful. Not that she’d realized that at the time. He’d been perfectly charming. Ten years her senior, but she hadn’t cared since he’d seemed smitten with her, and she’d definitely been with him. Best of all, he offered what she’d most wanted: the chance to leave Marrywell.
“Let’s see,” he mused, pondering her question. “I was at a gentlemen’s celebration and missed most of my cousin’s annual end of summer house party. I suspect you thought I’d been delayed by a woman.”
“Or women,” Rebecca murmured. This time, she couldn’t keep a faint smirk from twisting her lips.
“Aha! You did think that!”
“For the reasons you stated, it seemed the most logical conclusion.”
“My reputation precedes me, I take it.” He sounded rather beleaguered.
“I am not aware of your reputation. Is it poor?”
“Nearly rake status, I’m afraid. Not at all accurate, but it only takes one loose tongue to start a rumor.”
About the Author
USA Today Bestselling Author Darcy Burke loves history, her family, and cats (not in that in that order). She’s published over fifty captivating, compelling historical and contemporary romance novels and novellas. It all started with The Magic Swan when she was 11 years old, a happily ever after about a swan addicted to magic and the female swan who loved him—with exceedingly poor illustrations. She still has plenty of ideas and writes (it seems) constantly in between hanging with her family, playing games, listening to the Dave Matthews Band, bingeing period TV shows, and chilling with her seven rescue cats.
