One of the hardest parts of having a job, especially if you’re a marketing professional, is how your creativity slows dries up. It’s not because you’re flexing your creative muscles all the time and they get tired but because of the not-creative parts of the job.
There’s so much focus on chasing vanity metrics or the managerial side of marketing that so much of your creative energy just slowly drains away. “There’s so much not-creative stuff I’ve got to do. I feel so drained of energy!”
That’s how you’re left feeling unfulfilled and unhappy with your job.
You feel stuck.
That’s the mindset I help marketing professionals break out of and move their careers forward through my book, Resparking Creativity.
In 13 years, I’ve worked with marketing managers across multiple industries. They were hungry for growth but they didn’t know how to channel that desire. That’s what I helped them do. The strategies I shared with them have been finetuned and shared in this book.
My goal isn’t just to help marketing professionals find their creative energy again. No. I want to set up people for long-term success. Note that I say people because this book can help more than marketing managers (even though they’re the primary target). I’ll show you the tools and explain how they work. You can go forward to use those tools and elevate your job application strategies.
At the end of the day, I want people to have:
- A clear picture of their accomplishments and wins at each job
- The tools to advocate for themselves during the interviewing process.
- Knowledge of what recruiters and companies are looking for, so that they can better position themselves during the hiring process.
When people know their worth, what they bring to the table as professionals, and what companies are looking for, they can negotiate a stronger compensation package for themselves. That directly changes the quality of their life.
The easiest way to help people become upwardly mobile is by getting a better job. They work in a better place, they earn more. I want readers to know that they can break out of their rut and transition to a job that pays better and fulfills them emotionally.

Excerpt
Every person applying for a marketing director position has the same hard skills. This makes soft skills the differentiating factor. As one marketing director shared, “Everyone wants the title and the responsibility, but are you good at growing people? At managing a team? At strategically getting things done?”
And the best way to develop such skills is by practical application and/or getting the advice of an experienced person. Good mentors will help you polish your soft skills in particular. They help identify gaps in your leadership skills and overcome them. That way, you do not become a “manager” or a “boss,” rather, you become a transformational leader.
Transformational leaders define a big vision and activate the people around them toward vision achievement. They serve as a facilitator, solving problems that the team cannot. They empower the team to do a lot of the front-line tasks while they stay at the helm and make sure that the boat is headed in the right direction. They connect big company goals to individual goals and ease the team’s path forward. They keep information flowing because that is the key to their, the teams’, and the organizations’ success.
Teams with such leaders are eager to evolve and grow because they are united under a single banner and are willing to put in the time, effort, and energy to help the organization succeed. These leaders become excellent directors who lead the company to great success.
