My Review

My Rating: 4 Stars
Consider liking my review on Goodreads

I was granted complimentary audiobook access to Bon Voyage to Murder as part of my participation in a blog tour for the author’s latest novel, Maxed Out, via iRead Book Tours. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.

Fiona convinced her detective boyfriend to set his dislike of ships aside and take a cruise with her, but it’ll be anything but relaxing! (There will be murder, in case you couldn’t tell.) Meanwhile, Fiona’s brother will be wishing he was the murder victim, as he’s been left to babysit the house (granny’s ghost and all) and Fiona’s dog… who takes an impromptu vacation of her own with the neighbours.

I discovered CS McDonal’s work and the Fiona Quinn series through an earlier iRead tour, and I loved what I found, so I jumped at the chance to review her latest book and TWO more Fiona audiobooks. I was not disappointed! Bon Voyage to Murder is exactly what I look for in a cozy mystery: fun characters, great witty banter, loads of humour, and a pleasantly predictable plot. Who’s gonna die? It’s obvious from page 10. Who dunnit? Your guess will be close in the first couple of chapters. Does it matter that you know where it’s going? Absolutely not! The journey’s a lot of fun anyway, if not precisely because you know where it’s going because the characters and side plots are great and you don’t want it to end.

If you love cozy mysteries, you’ll love the Fiona Quinn series. Jump in at book one or pretty much anywhere along the line (though you might understand the ghost Granny better if you read the first book first) and you’re sure to have a blast!

About the Author

For twenty-six years C.S. McDonaldโ€™s life whirled around a song and a dance. Classically trained at Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School, The Pittsburgh Dance Alloy, and many others, she became a professional dancer and choreographer. During that time, she choreographed many musicals and an opera for the Pittsburgh Savoyards. In 2011 she retired from her dance career to write. Under her real name, Cindy McDonald, she writes murder-suspense and romantic suspense novels. In 2014 she added the pen name, C.S. McDonald, to write childrenโ€™s books for her grandchildren. In 2016 she added the Fiona Quinn Mysteries to that expansion. She decided to write the cozy mystery series that everyone, including teens and tweens, can read and enjoy. Presently, the Fiona Quinn Mysteries nine books with a tenth slated for 2021. The books are also available on audio, narrated by Maren Swenson Waxenberg. Cindyโ€™s newest venture is The Owlโ€™s Nest Mysteries. Once again, she has set her cozy mystery in Pittsburgh. The female protagonist, Alexa Owl, is much different from Fiona Quinn. The Owlโ€™s Next Mysteries has a little grit, a little time travel, a little romance, and a whole lot of cozy! Ms. McDonald resides on her Thoroughbred farm known as Fly by Night Stables near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Bill, and her poorly behaved Cocker Spaniel, Allister.
