One key to save the worlds…
I was granted eARC access to A Cat’s Guide to Vanquishing Evil by Chris Behrsin through the author’s ARC team email list in exchange for an honest review. Thanks again as always for the continued opportunity to get early access to Dragoncat! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.

One key to save the worlds…
Ben, the Bengal cat who has defeated warlocks, and his trusty dragon rider companions have a problem.
They’ve lost a magical key which the evil Warlock Prince can use to annihilate everything in all seven dimensions. Problem is, no one but he seems to know where it is.
Now the Warlock Prince plans to recover the key. Ultimately, his actions will thrust Ben and our dragon riding heroes into perilous battles against evil, demons, and themselves.
“A Cat’s Guide to Vanquishing Evil” is the final book in the second Dragoncat trilogy – a series of fun and child-friendly dragon riding adventures where not only humans befriend dragons, but cats (and a dog) too.

The new perilous adventure started in book four, A Cat’s Guide to Questing for Treasure, continues in A Cat’s Guide to Vanquishing Evil. Arran and Cana Dei are doing their utmost best (worst?) to lure Bastet into a deadly trap in order to release chaos on the dimensions. All eight of them. Yes, eight! Not seven as we thought before. Only Ben, his friends, and their dragons stand a chance at defeating these enemies, but there’s a small (big) complication: They’re being hosted by the School of the White, and they are not trusted.
As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Seven (Eight) Dimensions with Ben and the gang, and the last page came far too soon! Ben does a lot of maturing in terms of emotions and putting others before himself in this one, which felt great to read. We also continued to learn a lot about the crystals and how magic works in this universe. Without giving too much away, I’ll say some old friends make a return, and I couldn’t be happier!
I feel obligated to point out that I laughed out loud when Ben “let out a breath [he] hadn’t realized [he’d] been holding.” Ben is a YA protagonist, confirmed! (I’m kidding, Dragoncat is for all ages!)
I love all the different dynamics and evolving relationships Ben has throughout this book with Esme, Max, and the various other furry & four-legged characters, but I must say I missed Salanraja’s sass. Ben is having trouble maintaining his telepathic connection with her for most of the book, and we really feel her absence.
As always, I want to address reading order. There is often enough subtle exposition in these books that you could jump in anywhere and get by, but I highly recommend starting at the beginning of an arc. The ideal starting point is either the prequel novella, A Cat’s Guide to Serving a Warlock (which can be read at any time,) or the first novel, A Cat’s Guide to Bonding with Dragons. If for some reason you must jump in somewhere else, I recommend doing it at book four, A Cat’s Guide to Questing for Treasure, where the current adventure arc begins.
