My writing space – Isobel Reed
When you add up all the hours you spend writing a book, it really is a no brainier that you need a decent workspace. Even though I often end most days on my sofa doing my best pretzel impression, I usually begin my days sitting sensibly in my dedicated space. In an ergonomic chair and everything.
While I don’t have a dedicated room because hello, London is super expensive, I am lucky enough to have a good-sized living room with space for a cozy corner set up. My space also has a view, sort of. If I swivel in my chair, then I can see the river. And I do love a good swivel.
It took me ages to choose my desk but I’m happy with the end result. It’s simple and modern with a shiny gray finish. I paired it with a comfortable gray home office chair I found on Wayfair and added my own huge cushion. Guess what color? It all matches because I’m that girl!
My husband is also an avid workspace enthusiast and has made sure I don’t just have matching accessories but practical things that in his words ‘I can’t possibly work without’. The first thing he bought me when my desk arrived was a faux leather table mat cover. I didn’t even know these were a thing but it’s actually pretty awesome because I don’t have to worry about spilling things, I can just wipe clean my many spills easily without damaging the desk. It’s as if he knew my coffee cups would frequently jump to their death while I was writing. Anyway, he also brought my laptop up to eye level with a riser and hooked me up with a wireless keyboard and mouse. So sensible. Lighting wise I have a cool banker’s lamp with an LED bulb. Again, my husband did this. And he gave me a tiny remote that lets me change the colors of the bulb. It’s pink a lot.
I guess I’ve learned that small things can make the world of difference. My footrest was one of my best purchases. And keeping decorations to a minimum can save time when it comes to dusting. Don’t they say ‘clutter-free space, clutter-free mind’? I’m trying to channel that. Sometimes all you need is a pretty pink light and a vase of flowers.
At the end of the day, your workspace should always reflect what you need. For me, having an inviting space I can settle into every morning helps to motivate me. Especially on days when I have no idea what I want to write. Just showing up every day helps me reach my goal. Even if just showing up that day means I spend the day watching YouTube videos.
Remember your workspace isn’t there to judge you… it’s there to support you no matter what.

What happens when the king of casual meets the queen of picking the wrong men?
Lily is running. From a dead-end job, a neurotic mother and all the losers she dared to date. Moving halfway across the world to Bluestone County seemed like a good idea at the time. So did reopening her estranged father’s hardware store. But now she isn’t so sure.
Small town living has its perks though. Wide-open space, clean air, and sexy cowboys. Well, one sexy cowboy. Jake. Who also just so happens to be the new bane of her existence. At least when he’s not talking, she can admire the view.
Jake is the king of casual. The love of his life has always been his ranch, and that was fine with him. He never really saw the point in long-term. But all that changes when a mouthy, blonde sasses him into oblivion. He should have known she’d be trouble as soon as he laid eyes on her. Now it’s too late. She’s all he can think about. All he has to do is convince her that he’s finally the right man.

Excerpt
“You about done checking me out darlin’ or do ya want me to turn around and show you the back?” Her face flamed as her eyes flicked back up to his face and she caught sight of his cocky grin. Before she could attempt to deny what she’d been doing, his expression turned more serious as he took his turn running his eyes up and down her. “I didn’t know Matt had a daughter.”
Surprise, surprise.
“No s***. He wasn’t exactly father of the year.”
Lily couldn’t help but think of the irony. Her father had become friends with some guy young enough to be his son, yet he still couldn’t quite be bothered to pick up the phone and call his own daughter.
His smile became crooked as his glare intensified. “You always swear like a trucker, darlin’? Here, I thought English women were all class and manners.”
Is he being serious?
Letting out a huff, she couldn’t believe the nerve of this guy, “I’m sorry, have I stepped into the past? Are you gonna ask me why a little woman like me isn’t married next?”
“Alright sweetheart, calm down.” He sniggered, clearly amused by the steam coming out of her ears.
Stepping closer to him, she tilted her head up to meet his gaze. “I’m not or will I ever be your sweetheart. Now if you don’t mind, you need to get the hell out of my store before I call the police.”
